Michael Vick, the former star quarterback of the Atlanta Falcons of the NFL, was released from prison early Wednesday morning. Vick has served 19 months in Leavenworth medium security prison, after being convicted of dog fighting. After being chosen as the number 1 draft pick in the 2001 NFL Draft, he was a comet, rising above expectations. With his ability to shake defenders and his amazing quickness, he became one of the leagues' top quarterbacks. The three-time All-Pro gave opponents nightmares because just when you thought you had him he would shimmy away and leave you in the dust for a 20 yard gain.
Vick was on the verge of greatness when he was convicted of conspiracy charges for having a dogfighting ring at one of his properties in Virginia. He is supposed to go to his home in Hampton, Virginia, where he will finish the rest of his 23 month sentence and be on supervised house arrest. Vick says he would love to play again. He is scheduled to be released from Federal Custody on June 20th. Fans in Atlanta still love the man that re-energized their interest in the Atlanta Falcons, making them competitive again. I truly hope he is given the opportunity to redeem himself, whichever team that may be with.
